Things to Know about Viral Marketing
Viral marketing is mentioned here and there in the Net. This proves that something which stands behind this notion must be really worth attention.
So, what is that viral marketing about? And why some are very successful in using it and some remember it as their nightmare?
The idea behind viral marketing is simple. When other people are promoting your site/service/product by word of a mouth and others - after hearing that promo - start doing the same. So your promo like a virus catches the whole net. And you, having just started the buzz enjoy traffic sipping bear or milk or coffee or juice or working out in the gym.
Successful viral marketing’s referral technique works like the snowball effect. The keyword to put attention to is 'successful.' You see, many people launch affiliate programs and try to convince their affiliates to bring affiliates, so that the new affiliates bring more affiliates, and so on. But only few succeed to make it a snowball effect when most of the people who heard your offer spread the buzz further on and get some reward.
Do you remember the chain letter? We are not talking if this is legal or not, but this is the example of the thing to work virally. Or the smart approach to those who were watching The Ring movie and really believed into the stuff that in case they will not re-record the video tape with this movie and don't spread it further, then the beast eats them. By the way, a good joke is also a way to spread info virally.
Surely viral marketing is a great way to keep advertising costs way down. But how to make it work?
Well, you need to understand one thing. Your "viral thing" must be able to pass one simple test. If person A - who heard about your offer - eagerly passes it to the person B, and person B follows the same behavior; you are the boss.
How you do that - details. But it must be VERY EASY for a person A - after hearing your offer - to pass it to person B.
This includes technological easiness, because no one would be spending much time to register and do much stuff before the offer is sent further.
And this includes psychological easiness. One must feel really happy and satisfied to do this. No one wants to look like spammy jerk just because he or she distributed the message further on.
If these 2 rules really fit into the picture of what you are planning, then you are on the verge to launch another successful viral marketing campaign and see the results shortly. But be frank to yourself: what might look lovely for you can be not ok for the rest of the world. This is where most of the viral marketing campaigns get stuck.
