Google Bombing – Google Bomb Helps to Understand Truth About Google

Google Bombing
Will Help You to Understand
The Weak Point of
Google Search Engine Algorithm

For many Google bombing and its effects are just for fun. You type "failure" into Google and see Obama’s page top result (used to be so, now Google handled this issue). But for those who are interested to understand better the secrets of getting to Google page 1 the process of Google bombing is a big eye-opening issue.

Before we get further, let’s define what Google bomb (or Google bombing) is about.

Google bomb is a manipulation with search engine algorithm that pushes a web page to top results for an absolutely irrelevant keyword. For example, when Obama’s bio web page got page 1 for ‘failure’ this word was not even mentioned in the text of the page. Only thanks to the tons of backlinks (this is what Google bombing is) with ‘failure’ being used as anchor text this page received its notorious position. Usually backlinks are coming from irrelevant and low quality pages.

Isn’t it amazing – even irrelevant and low quality pages (pardon, backlinks from irrelevant and low quality pages) can help to push a site to Google page 1. And this in 2009!!

Wow, I can get Google page 1 for any keyword I want!

Stop being in euphoria, it is too early to say so.

Google learned to difuse these bombs. Matt Cutts nicely hints on what they are doing to defuse Google bombs in his post here.

But from what Matt is saying and from the fact that Google bombing still works we can squeeze some interesting facts that are important for everyone who is dreaming about page 1 in Google.

  1. Google has troubles with running its defusing algo all the time

Matt explains that "The first algorithm (detecting Googlebombs) has to process our entire web index, so in most typical cases we tend not to run that algorithm every single time we crawl new web data. I think that during 2008 we re-ran the Googlebomb detection algorithm 5-6 times, for example."

Well, it makes sense. Though Google can afford extra data center to run this Google bomb detecting algo even every week – they are not poor like church mouse.

Perhaps, this detection algo has to – for a while – lower the impact of specific type backlinks. And Google cannot afford to stop counting even irrelevant and low quality backlinks once and forever, because these should be backlinks that are very important to Google. If they stop counting them, the quality of Google as search engine may lower – and they do not want it.

Don’t be surprised: even irrelevant and low quality backlinks are important to Google, because Google loves to give its users fresh info. And fresh info is very often quoted by these junky backlinks. If Google starts playing too serious with the quality and trust of backlinks, its users may lose the freshness of searches.

Google seems to have chosen the best strategy. They give both fresh and quality results. But, from time to time, they need to launch semi automatic algorithms that lowers the value of specific type of backlinks, but then gets back to normal life.

  2. Backlinks remain the weak point of Google algo

And this is logical. Because Google search engine algo started from making a revolution about the backlink indexation. And even in 2009 the backlinks from irrelevant and low trust pages seem to be a problem for the big scary Google.

As it is impossible to stop counting on backlinks, Google needs to resort to these manual launches of Google bomb detection algos and other semi manual stuff.
